Midwest Kite Jam Thanksgiving 2011

Well it was the first event that I have organized, and it was a great time.  Guys came from all over the Midwist to ride together in central Illinois.  Here are a few photos from the trip, and I will add photos from the entire crew once I'm able to upload them. It was a great time, and i'm already planning for a spring event!

Wildwood Buggy Bash

Well, its that time of the year for fall kiteboarding in New Jersey.  I was able to make it out there only for two days.  Unfortunatly the wind was very low, but there were lots of cool things that happend on this trip.  I met the Wildwood Catholic highschool Power kite club.  They have a great group of kiters that are very well linked in their community.  To my suprise they used one of my photos from this year as the logo for the club. I feel so honored!  More photos from the bash to come in the next few days

Scott Koehn Learning to Flyboard

At the Wildwood Buggy Bash I had a chance to ride with my good friend Scott. We spent a session at north beach on friday learning new tricks.  This was his fourth session on an arc and within minutes he was learning how to send his kite hard and he was getting some air.  It's always nice to teach people flyboarden dutch style.  Keep your eye on this guy, he's learning really fast.

Interested in Peter Lynn Chargers?

Photo: Dan Smith UK team rider
As the exclusive Peter Lynn Landboarding team rider in North America, I will be promoting the sales of the Charger twinskin kite and Navigator control bar and extra's.  If you are interested in buying one, you can contact me via email, or post on this site.  Prices and other info to be added soon.

I will also be adding "How To" videos to help people set up and tune their chargers to the correct settings.  There are many people out there on forums and on the beach that give out wrong information to set up your kites.  I want to be able to cut past the bad advice and get you up and moving in no time.

JIBE

Here are a few shots from the Jekyll Island Buggy Expo in Georgia.  This week was also my honeymoon. I got married on Saturday May 14 to my beautiful wife Joy.  I'll post up some photos soon of the wedding when I get them.

I just recieved a new 19m Charger which is wicked in lower winds.  I've never been able to ride so well in 14mph winds

I've also been putting my photography skills into practice.  Marijn was teaching me how to get good pictures done while at NABX and here are a few shots

April 19, 20011

I love powersliding on hardpacked sand.  Its one of the best surfaces to ride.

Getting into grips with foot outs is really easy in clean ocean wind.  The windspeed was in the low 20s, which was perfect for a 15m peter lynn charger

Todd riding hard on the 6m phantom.

When you are sponsored people will give you rides off of the beach

WildWood Buggy Bash 2011

This last week was the WildWood Buggy Bash in New Jersey and we got some nuking winds.  It was my first year at the bash and I got to meet all of the East Coat Kitesports Crew, plus many of the riders from up and down the East Coast.  I'll post up photos this week and introduce you to many of the key people.  I don't have all of the photos downloaded yet, but here is what I have so far.

Jaymz a really nice fellow who is excited about Kitesports.  We had to work on his 15m charger a bit, hope to see it in action soon

Paul, he is a wicked good rider.  He loves to rip up and down the beach and then throw a few 360s along the way.

Riding my favorite charger when the winds were low the first day.I hope everybody had a great weekend!

Good times in the Desert

Around thursday the wind died out in the afternoon and the temperatures were high. Marijn, John, Jeroen, and I decided to head out on a small road trip to Lake Mead to go swiming for the Afternoon.

We had plenty of team gatherings in the RV, here the PL foil kite designer shares a few laughs with Jeroen, Fast Arie, John and I

This photo says it all.  Ozzy is a beast

Ricardo was flying around the playa early one morning before anybody else had a chance to get out there

Dude, wheres my buggy?

Freeman, I guess he got hot launched during the out and back and knocked himself out cold.

Dino is one of the most down to earth nice guys i have ever met, this photo doesn't capture the torture that he dishes out to Ricardo.

Ken number3.  I found out that we share an interest in motorcycles.  He was one of the first guys that i met on the playa.  I'm gonna miss hanging out with you crazy canadians

Ziggy, small guy with tons of energy.  hooking up his special 9m phantom

NABX is nothing without the people.  If you missed this year, you should try to be there next time, it was epic!

Recovering from NABX

So as I sit at home cleaning my kites waiting for them to dry I am still reflecting on the week.  I want tto take this time to introduce you to a few of the guys who were there.

This is Jeroen Pigmans, he is one of the Dutchies who was teaching me lots of tricks.  What a good rider, and such a nice guy.  Hope to see you in the fall!

This is Fast Arie, the fastest dude on land underneath a kite.  I think his world record for speed is 82mph

Here, Jeroen is helping Ozzy fold up his vapor, he is currently number 3 in the nationals on the Dutch buggy circuit

Here is John Penders, he was the other dutcie boarder who was teaching me lots of stuff, he likes to boost big
This is one of the two most important people that I met this week.  Marijn is the team manager for the peter lynn team, and he made NABX possible for me.  Him and Ricardo, have drastically changed my life for the better.  If you ever get a chance to meet him, buy him some snapple!

Photos from John Chilese

There were many photographers who captured the essence of NABX.  John Chilese snapped a few pictures of me while I was practicing in low winds.

360 on the playa surface

Low altitude wheel grabs

This was the pile of gear outside of our RV. There were two 19m chargers, a 15, three 12m, a 10m, two 8m, and a 6m charger in that pile.  That's not including any of the prototypes we had or the quiver of vapors or twister IIs.  This was a gear junkies dream come true

A quick look at NABX

Ricardo being awesome

Marijn shooting my current favorite photo, 360 or 720, i'm not sure
This is a pre story about NABX, I have more than a thousand photos to go through, but all in all it was an insane trip.  So much fun, many new tricks and lots of friendly people.

Packing for NABX

I'm leaving for NABX on Monday, and today i'm trying to wrangle all of my gear together.  I've been so concerned about packing my kites and other junk that I almost forgot that i'm going to need some clothing!  I hope to see you all out on the playa next week! Ride the Sky!

Old times

I only had to work a half day today, so i'm a little bored since it is cold and raining outside.  I was thinking of the days when I used to just kite jump before I started riding the ATB.  I love floating in the air like peter pan

Weekend in Central Illinois

I went home to Illinois to visit my family this weekend because i had to pick up my fiance joy at the St. Louis airport.  I had Saturday morning to myself, so i thought i'd get in a quick session before i had to head to the airport.  The wind started out at 13-18mph which was perfect for the first half hour or so.  After that wind jumped up to 27mph.  I tried to hold it down on my 15m charger but but with the wind shifting constantly from the North to the West made it really sketchy.  In a wind direction change my kite looped half way and powered up low in the window, so i had to pull the safety.  I quickly packed up and started to set up my 12m charger.  the wind was getting so stronge by then that my kite weights and kite were sliding down wind.  I couldn't even get the 12m set up because the wind was crankin.  I had no other option because the 12 is my smallest wing in the quiver so I sat in the field and enjoyed the outdoors for a bit before I left.  I was a little bummed, but I at least got to ride for 30 mins or so.  I guess i'll need to get a 10m at some point!

Look at how much unused space is in Central Illinois!!! thats my favorite field to fly in so far
